International Grandmaster (GM), former politician, and activist Garry Kasparov has shown attention to Argentine Faustino Oro, who at just 12 years old is one of the most promising players in the world. According to the Argentine News Agency, the 62-year-old Croatian posted on social media X with an attentive eyes emoji in response to a post about the Argentine. The mentioned post highlighted that the Argentine surpassed 2600 performance points in a tournament for the second time in his career, and by achieving it a third time within the next three months, Oro could become the youngest International Grandmaster in history. With an impressive rise in the rankings of the current best chess players, Faustino Oro made history again by finishing his second tournament with a final result above 2600 points. This figure is fundamental because it is the one that could turn the young Argentine into the youngest Grandmaster since the term was invented, which was implemented in tournaments in 1907 and has been awarded by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) since 1950. Thus, anyone who achieves three tournaments with scores above 2600 and maintains a minimum Elo rating of 2500 can be selected by FIDE as a Grandmaster, the highest title in the sport. Oro had first exceeded the 2600-point mark in September of this year at the Legends and Prodigies tournament held in Madrid, and he achieved his second 'Grandmaster norm' at the fourth edition of the Magistral Szmetan-Giardelli tournament in our country. In this way, the boy born in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of San Cristóbal, whose Elo rating is 2503, has three months to achieve the third norm and be able to be selected as a GM, something that caught the attention of the historic chess player Garry Kasparov, who was also the youngest World Champion in history in 1985, at the age of 12.
